Twenty-First Sunday after Pentecost
IF YE LOVE ME
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Even the Spirit of truth: and ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
WORDS: John 14:15–18, KJV.

AND CAN IT BE?
Called one of Charles Wesley’s autobiographical hymns, written on the occasion of his conversion, this hymn has been included in most Methodist hymnals since its first publication in 1739. All five stanzas are found in our hymnal on page 363.
And can it be?
Amazing love, how can it be?
And can it be that I should gain
An int'rest in the Savior's blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me?
He left His Father's throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam's helpless race;
'Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.
And can it be?
Amazing love, how can it be?
No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th'eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me?
